Harmonic and Melodic scales
If a scale is harmonic, i know that means that you raise the 7th note on the way up and the way down But what does it mean to have a melodic scale? You raise the 6th and 7th notes on the way up but what happens on the way down?
As you suggested, melodic minor scales raise the 6th and 7th degrees on the way up, and on the way down the scale resembles a descending natural minor scale with the usual minor 6th and 7th degrees.
